Overview of Technology Curriculum at Advent:

The use of technology is highly valued at Advent therefore it is embedded in all areas of the curriculum and at all grade levels.
In primary grades (K-2) technology is used to reinforce concepts being introduced and mastered in reading, writing, and math.
In secondary grades (3-5) skills such as keyboarding and responsible internet use are emphasized along with mastering programs common in publishing projects such as Power Point©, Excel©, Microsoft Word© and Publisher©. In addition, students are introduced to digital arts programs and coding.
In middle school, technology become more of a tool for the student to use to produce projects, research papers and more. The cross curricular approach allow students to use the latest technology programs and offerings in a way that is meaningful to them in their day to day academic life. Middle school students have the use of Chromebooks. Software is cloud based as we are a member of Google for Education.
Robotics is offered as an extra-curricular activity for students (in grades 5-8). Students participating can choose to be a part of competition teams. The competition incorporate projects and presentations in addition to the robotic component.
Throughout the course of their time here at Advent, each student will be exposed to a variety of technology including: iPads, tablets, Chromebooks, electronic readers such as Nooks, laptops, and desktop computers. Research activities will include instruction in identifying valid websites, avoiding plagiarism while citing sources, internet etiquette and more.

Technology Infrastructure:

Our classrooms are networked, have internet access, use projectors, interactive smart boards and document cameras. Grades K-4 have technology in their classrooms to reinforce their learned skills and publish projects. There are two computer labs on campus for use by the students.
